Proper conditioning and handling of the Sand-Laden Manure is critical to successfully harvesting (recovering) all of the reusable bedding sand from the slurry. Conditioning begins by maintaining the fundamental structure of the manure at the collection stage. Using automated delivery systems guarantees minimal handling eliminating premature sand settling prior to processing. The resulting controlled transfer of the Sand Laden Manure into the process equipment maximizes the throughput and sand recovery.
Conditioning continues at the Fiber Removal phase with the introduction of polymer treated (stabilized) recycled lagoon water. The BEI Polymer Hydration Unit hydrates, ages and injects reaction specific polymers into recycled lagoon water that is used for the dilution process.
Stabilizing the lagoon water reduces the viscosity and fluidizes the water making it wetter and an excellent medium for dilution without adding any fresh water to the system. The polymer treated lagoon water and Sand-Laden Manure are blended and simultaneously delivered into the Trident Manure Separator for vigorous mixing and primary separation.
The dilution and mixing ensures complete “wash out” of the sand from the Sand-Laden Manure slurry, maximizing sand capture. The washed out sand (particle size less than 0.125” diameter) and liquid pass through the screen moving onto the Trident Sand Shark for velocity settling.
Removing the sand in this method leaves behind a low moisture content manure fiber and stones (particle sizes larger than 0.125” diameter) that are discharged from the manure separator to storage for nutrient reuse applications.
In the Sand Recovery phase unimpeded by fiber the sand in the sand liquid mixture is free to settle out as it enters the Trident Sand Shark settling reactor. The separated sand particles fall to the bottom of the non-clogging eccentric cone reactor.
The sand free effluent along with any fine organic material that remains in the liquid is discharged out the top of the Trident Sand Shark to a lagoon where it is stored for future process water reuse and or land applied as fertilizer.
The sand is continuously removed from the reactor via an auger assembly. The sand is automatically drained and purged of any residual organic material as it is conveyed up the auger system. The clean dewatered sand is delivered to a stacking pad.
